The short answer
Before travelling to Türkiye for dental treatment, ask the clinic in writing how rescheduling works, what happens to your deposit if you or the clinic change dates, whether extra nights are possible and at what cost, and who pays if the clinic's schedule causes a delay. Check your travel insurance wording directly with your insurer, and build flexibility into flights and accommodation where you can.
- Change is common. Plan for it before you book, not after.
- Get rescheduling and deposit terms in writing for specific scenarios.
- Don't assume travel insurance covers anything connected to planned treatment; ask your insurer.
Planning dental treatment abroad means coordinating three things at once: the clinic's schedule, your travel, and your life at home. When any one of them moves, the others are affected.
Plans change more often than people expect. Flights get cancelled, treatment takes longer than planned, and work or family needs intervene. The good news is that most of the stress can be avoided by asking a few questions before you book.
Why change is common in dental tourism
- Online quotations are provisional, and an in-person examination may change the plan or the number of visits.
- Some treatment involves stages, with healing time between them.
- Flights and connections are outside anyone's control.
- Personal circumstances change.
None of this is unusual. The question is simply who carries the cost when it happens.
If you need to reschedule before travelling
Ask the clinic:
- How much notice do you need to move my dates?
- Is my deposit transferred to the new dates, or is any of it lost?
- Is there a deadline after which changes cost more?
- Are accommodation and transfers moved too, if you booked them?
If the clinic reschedules
It happens, for example when staff are unavailable. Ask:
- Will the deposit be refunded in full if the clinic cancels?
- If the clinic moves the dates, who pays for my changed flights?
If treatment takes longer than planned
This is the scenario patients most often forget to ask about.
| Question | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Can extra nights be added at the hotel, and at what rate? | Avoids last-minute price surprises. |
| Do transfers continue for the extra days? | Saves arranging your own transport. |
| Who pays if the delay is caused by the clinic's schedule? | Clarifies responsibility in advance. |
| Could a second trip be needed? | Affects your budget and time off work. |
Insider note: In coordination work, the patients who handle schedule changes most calmly are almost always the ones who asked about them in advance. A two-line written answer before booking is worth far more than a long negotiation afterwards.
Flights, accommodation and insurance
- Flights: flexible or changeable tickets cost more, but can be worth considering when the treatment schedule isn't fixed.
- Accommodation: if you book your own, choose a cancellable rate where possible.
- Insurance: don't assume a standard travel policy covers anything connected with planned treatment abroad. Ask your insurer directly, and read the policy wording.
What to get in writing
Before paying a deposit, try to have written answers covering:
- Rescheduling by you, with notice periods.
- Cancellation or rescheduling by the clinic.
- Flight cancellations and delays.
- Extra nights and who pays for them.
- What happens to your deposit in each case.

Questions & answers
Frequently asked
Will I lose my deposit if my flight is cancelled?
It depends entirely on the clinic's terms. Ask specifically about flight cancellations before paying, and get the answer in writing.
Does travel insurance cover dental treatment abroad?
Coverage for planned treatment abroad varies and shouldn't be assumed. Ask your insurer directly what is and isn't covered, and read the policy wording.
What if the clinic needs more time than planned?
Ask in advance who pays for extra nights and changed flights if the clinic's schedule changes. A clear written answer avoids difficult conversations later.
