The short answer
Before leaving Türkiye after dental treatment, confirm in writing what follow-up the clinic provides, who you contact and how, how quickly they usually respond, and what happens if you need help that can't be given remotely. Make sure you leave with written records of the treatment you received, and consider talking to a dentist at home before you travel.
- Follow-up planning starts before you travel, not after you land.
- Know exactly who to contact, how, and what happens if you need to return.
- Leave with written records of your treatment to share with a dentist at home.
Most planning for dental treatment abroad focuses on getting there: the clinic, the price and the trip. Much less attention goes to the months after you come home, which is when good follow-up arrangements matter most.
This guide covers the practical side of follow-up: contacts, records and responsibilities. Clinical aftercare, meaning what to do and what to watch for after a specific treatment, is a question for your dentist, and we don't cover it here.
Why follow-up planning starts before you travel
Once you're home, you're relying on arrangements made before you left. It's much easier to clarify them while you're still comparing clinics, when you can still choose differently, than after treatment.
Questions about the clinic's follow-up
Ask each clinic, ideally in writing:
- What follow-up do you provide after I return home? Remote check-ins, a contact for questions, review appointments?
- Who exactly do I contact? A named coordinator, a general number or the dentist?
- How do I reach them, and how quickly do they usually respond?
- What happens if I need help that can't be given remotely?
- If a return visit is needed, who pays for travel and accommodation?
- Is any guarantee or warranty offered, and what exactly does it cover, for how long, and on what conditions?
Records to take home
Before you leave, ask for written records that you can share with any dentist who sees you later:
- A written summary of the treatment carried out
- Any materials used, as recorded by the clinic
- Copies of images taken during treatment
- Aftercare instructions, in a language you understand
- Receipts and invoices
Keep them somewhere safe, both on paper and digitally.
Insider note: From the clinic side, records are easy to provide at the time and surprisingly hard to obtain months later. Ask before you leave the building.
Talking to a dentist at home
Consider contacting your local dentist before you travel:
- Would they see you after treatment abroad?
- What information would they need from the clinic?
This conversation can save a great deal of uncertainty later.
A simple pre-departure checklist
- I have the name and contact details of the person to contact.
- I know how quickly they usually reply.
- I know what happens if I need to return, and who pays.
- I have written records and copies of images.
- I have aftercare instructions I understand.
- I have receipts for every payment.
All of these are included in our Clinic Checklist, which you can print and take with you.

Questions & answers
Frequently asked
Will my dentist at home see me after treatment abroad?
Practices vary. It's worth asking your local dentist before you travel whether they would see you afterwards, and what information they would need from the clinic.
What records should I ask the clinic for?
Ask for written records of the treatment carried out, including what was done, any materials used, and aftercare instructions, plus copies of any images taken. A dentist who sees you later will find these helpful.
What if I need to go back to the clinic?
Ask before treatment what the clinic offers if a return visit is needed, and who pays for travel and accommodation in that case. Get the answer in writing.
