The short answer
In dental tourism to Türkiye, the clinic provides and is responsible for your treatment, while coordinators, facilitators and agencies arrange or sell it, sometimes earning a commission from the clinic. Working through an intermediary can be convenient, but you should know who you are dealing with, whether a commission is involved, and who is responsible for refunds, treatment and complaints.
- The business that treats you and the business that talks to you may not be the same.
- Intermediaries are not inherently bad; hidden relationships are the problem.
- Ask who is responsible for your treatment, your money and your complaint.
When you first enquire about dental treatment in Türkiye, the person who replies may not work for a dental clinic at all. They might be a clinic's in-house coordinator, an independent facilitator, a marketing company, or a travel agency that packages treatment with flights and hotels.
From the inside, we've seen all of these models. Each can work well. The key is knowing which one you're dealing with.
The main roles
| Role | What they usually do | Who they usually work for |
|---|---|---|
| Dental clinic | Examines you, plans and provides treatment, takes clinical responsibility | Itself |
| In-house patient coordinator | Handles enquiries, scheduling, logistics and translation | The clinic |
| Facilitator or agency | Finds patients, compares clinics, arranges bookings, sometimes travel | Often paid by one or more clinics |
| Travel agency | Packages flights, hotels and transfers, sometimes with treatment | Varies |
The labels aren't used consistently across the industry, so ask rather than assume.
Why it matters
Responsibility for your treatment
Only the clinic and the dentist treating you are responsible for your clinical care. A facilitator may be helpful and well-meaning, but they generally can't answer clinical questions with authority or take responsibility for the outcome.
How the price is built
Some intermediaries are paid a commission by the clinic for each patient they introduce. That isn't wrong in itself. It's a common business model in many industries. But it can affect the price you pay and which clinics are recommended to you.
Insider note: The most useful question to ask any intermediary is simple: "How are you paid?" A transparent answer, whether that's a commission, a fee or a salary, is a good sign. Reluctance to answer is worth noting.
Who holds your money
If you pay a deposit through an intermediary, find out who receives it and who is responsible for refunding it. This should be stated in writing.
Who handles complaints
If something goes wrong, you'll want to know whether to contact the clinic, the intermediary or both, and what each will actually do.
Questions to ask
- Do you work for the clinic, or independently?
- Which clinics do you work with, and how do you choose them?
- How are you paid? Do you receive a commission?
- Would the price be different if I contacted the clinic directly?
- Who receives my deposit, and who is responsible for refunds?
- Who do I contact if I have a problem during or after treatment?

Questions & answers
Frequently asked
Are dental tourism agencies a bad idea?
Not necessarily. A good intermediary can save time and help with logistics. The important thing is transparency: knowing who they represent, how they are paid, and who is responsible if something goes wrong.
Does using an agency make treatment more expensive?
It can, if a commission is built into the price, but not always. Some clinics price the same regardless of how patients arrive. You can ask an intermediary directly how they are paid.
Is a clinic's in-house coordinator an intermediary?
An in-house coordinator works for the clinic itself. They're usually your main point of contact for logistics, but clinical questions should still be answered by the dentist responsible for your care.
